Default Purchaced CDkeys

Hi, just wondering if anybody knows about anything happening with CDkeys purchased off Ebay. I my self purchaced on a month back now and it has been fine untill today when I logged in it told me I was unable to use my account as there is no active CDkey to it. Does Guildwars have somthing in the EULA about buying CDkeys from ebay? I can't see how that should be a problem. Let alone cause for banning the key? Just wondering also if anybody has any advice on the situation. I've emailed guildwars support asking whats going on and now just sat here patiently waiting for a responce.

Yes, buying CD-key's off ebay is illegal - this means if ANet detects it they are fully entitled to ban the account. This is most likely what happened to you - they detected that you weren't the original creator of the account and thus banned the account.

http://www.guildwars.com/legal/user-agreement.html

Quote:
3. LICENSE TO USE

Subject to the terms of this Agreement, NC Interactive grants to you, for your personal use only, a non-exclusive, revocable, nontransferable (except as permitted in Section 4(a)) license to use the Service, and a non-exclusive, revocable, nontransferable (except as permitted in Section 4(a)) license to use the Software in connection with the Service, without charge except for new Chapters which will be charged on a prepaid basis according to Section 5.

You may not (a) sublicense, rent, lease, loan or otherwise transfer the Software or the Service (or any part thereof), including without limitation access keys; (b) modify, adapt, reverse engineer or decompile the Software, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the Software; (c) create any derivative works in respect of the Software or the Service; or (d) otherwise use the Software or the Service except as expressly provided in this Agreement. You should keep your access key in a safe place and not share it with anyone else. The access key can be used only once. Title to the Software, and all rights with respect to the Software and Service not specifically granted under this Agreement, including without limitation all rights of reproduction, modification, distribution, display, disassembly and decompilation and all copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret and other proprietary rights and interests are reserved to NC Interactive.
4a refer's purely to adults buying the game for minor's use. I bolded the appropriate parts... Basically all you'll get from ANet support is "Buy a legal copy and we won't ban your account if you follow the rest of the EULA"

This is a known scam Ebay is NOT a legitimate source for CD-Keys. Arenanet reserves the right to sell or disable keys as required. Since recent abuses with duplicate keys in the system they have been locking down keys with multiple users from different IPs. In all likelihood the jerk that sold that key to you was probable still using it OR sold it to multi people. I would do 2 things. 1 Contact Anet support and see if you can get a legitimate key, And 2 Contact Ebay and report the seller for fraudulent activity.

Either way, all I can say is this is 100% your fault for buying Non legitimate keys. Its caveat emptor with that crap. I don't know why people insist on this activity. anyone with half a brain cell should know this is not legal. Anet lets you download the client for free and inside the client is a legitimate purchase method for buying keys from THEM. LEGALLY... No need to Ever get a retail box. its all right there. all you do is click the create account button, and chose purchase online account. Bing bang. all done you have guildwars...

Contact [email protected] or [email protected]

Or use the support message board at http://support.guildwars.com

Please give them the Err number and a brief description of what happened and how you obtained the key. Not promising anything obviously, but its worth a shot to see if they will do something. Personally I doubt they will since the keys were not obtained legitimately.

Woah.. That hurts. I baught the game too, the guy selling it said that he would email me my key and ship me the game. Mega sucks *whimper* I got burned.. But also theres no way I can purchace a copy thru playNC as they don't take my plastic cash. Grrr I got burned.

Well I can't see how it was a multiple key as I registered an account with it and once that is done the key is more or less usless.. Also the guy is convinently no longer a registered user. Like I said up there.. I got burned on ebay.

To PanicAcid, try to purchase the game via an internet shop if you can't find it locally. What I mean here is a legitimate new game, packaged by Anet but sold on-line via an internet shop rather than from a physical shop. If you have to look a bit outside your geographical area it may take a bit longer to get to you, and may cost a bit more for shipping, but it might be an alternative.

We (my wife and I) purchased two copies of the game this way, not because our local shops here in Denmark did not have them, but because the local internet shops for computer parts and computer games are just cheaper. Delivery service in our case is literally overnight (order today before 3 PM and it comes in the post the next day, heh heh).

Anyway, this is the best darn game my wife and I have played to date, and so the money for two accounts was well worth spent! (needless to say dishes don't get washed anymore, the house doesn't get cleaned, lots of pizza is eaten, we are playing all the time!). So I for one don't mind that I will not be allowed to resell the accounts if we ever get tired of them.

Ouch! Yes, that does make things difficult. Can you get a friend with card to help you with such a purchase? Anyway, internet shops in Denmark take alternate forms of payment (like direct bank transfers) but these are slower, and if you are from outside the country, bank to bank transfer fees would be expensive.

Go for it! Sounds like a very good price!

Edit: Just looked that up (www.play.com). Wow, looks like the prices for GW are tumbling. Place in Denmark where I bought mine has also dropped the price.

Dont know about in Denmark or any other place but this was always the price in Play.com, when i preorder my one i paid the ??17.99 Inc. Delivered

whats amazing is people are buying on ebay for the same price or some times more than Play.com, i just dont understand why i see people bidding like ??25-30 for GW when they can get on play.com for almost half of what they bidding plus p&p.

If you want to make some quick ?? buy GW from play.com and sell them on eBay for ??25+P&P that would make you some money. Is it Legal? I am sure it is you not opening the package.

If off ebay was ??8-10 ok maybe gamble but u dont even make a saving, and dont end up with the full package...

I would prefer to wait 3 days or so for delivery from play.com than get a doggy CD key off Ebay.

Just for reference

Guild Wars

our price: ??17.99 Delivered
availability: In stock.
Usually dispatched within 24 hours.
RRP: ??29.99 You save: ??12.00 (40%)

Edit: Forgot to add, if someone doest own a Credit Card or Debit Card you can always try http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/gamepayinfo.asp

you pay a bit more for the games than play.com but still a good service and a good option for anyone without a Cc or Dd. Pay, at your Post Office

Taken from Gameplay.com.

" You can now pay over the web on Gameplay with good old cash.

When you receive the card, simply take it to your local Post Office & pay them cash over the counter. They will transfer it onto the card.

As soon as we see you have paid your cash we will dispatch your order. You can pay at the Post Office before you order, or after.

Any UK customers of any age can use this card, so if even if you are not old enough to have a Credit Card yet, you can now buy online! "

That game cards a fairly good idea, but the prices of games are clearly paying for it. It's not that I don't have a card it's just hard to find them that take solo, id upgrade to a SWITCH but don't really want the over draught.

It's ??17.99 they take most British debit cards. or Amazon.co.uk will take payment by postal orders.

Anyone knows if I can buy a legit GW cd-key? I don't want to pay for another copy of the game (40-50$CAD). I just need a 2nd key so my sis could play on her own comp, and hopefully play together.

When you buy the game, you are basically buying the cd key. You can download the game online legally from guildwars.com but you can't play without a key.

Now, on buying the game in general, a new copy of the game contains a cd case where the key is located. In order to reveal the key you have to scratch off a layer in order to show the key. If this layer is already removed, then you are screwed. Each key can be used to create one account, if somebody else tries to create an account with the same key, it will not work. So, an unsuspecting buyer may think, "Hey, if I can create an account, then nobody else can create another account with the same key. So therefore once my account has been created, I am set." So this user buys a key from ebay and creates an account and gives good feedback to the seller, expecting that everything has gone well. Right after this happens, the seller calls A.Net saying that his cd key doesn't work. He sends in the original CD Case and CDs along with the a reciept showing that he brought the game. A.Net has to assume that someone either guessed a correct CD key or that his key was stolen, but since he has the reciept and original packaging, that is proof that he is the original owner so A.Net disables the key and gives him a new one. Watch out for this type of scam, as it works in most games that involve cd keys.

The prices fall ing is not too abnormal for this point in a game life cycle. BUt that will change again when Chapter 2 comes out. and they are repackaging with both chapters. that will jump back up to $45+ again... This is happening right around new years, so this is not suprising to me that chapter one, and game that has been out for a few months now is starting to drop in price.
